The utility range
Single-axle 5x8 and 5x10 decks at 2,990 lb GVWR handle a mower, yard waste or a quad, and weigh around 960 lb empty. Above that, the 7-foot-wide tandems run from 12 to 20 feet at 5,000, 7,000 and 10,000 lb, which covers most landscape and contractor work. Reading a Sure-Trac model code
The codes are not arbitrary. Every Sure-Trac model number carries three pieces of information, and once you know the pattern you can compare two trailers without opening either spec sheet.
WIDTH COMES FIRST
The opening pair of digits is the overall width. 62 is 6 foot 2 across the frame, which leaves a 5-foot deck. 82 is 8 foot 2 overall and a 7-foot deck.
THEN LENGTH
The following pair is the deck length in feet — 12, 14, 16, 20 and so on.
THE SUFFIX IS THE ONE THAT MATTERS
The number after the dash is the GVWR in hundreds of pounds: -030 for 2,990 lb, -050 for 5,000, -070 for 7,000, -100 for 10,000 and -140 for 14,000. Two trailers can be the same size on paper and rated thousands of pounds apart, so the suffix is the figure to compare.
Picking a capacity, not a length
Subtract the empty weight from the GVWR and what is left is what you can actually carry. A 2,990 lb single-axle that weighs 960 lb empty leaves roughly 2,030 lb of payload — fine for a mower, not for a skid steer. Working out the heaviest thing you expect to load, and then choosing the rating above it, avoids the most common and most expensive mistake in buying a trailer.

On a tilt bed the deck itself pivots, so a machine drives on at a shallow angle with nothing to lift or store. Ramps are lighter and cheaper but you handle them by hand every time you load. If you load alone, or load often, the tilt is usually worth the difference.

A deckover gives a flat full-width floor because the deck sits above the wheels, which suits wide loads and anything forked on from the side. It also sits higher, so a longer ramp or a tilt is needed to load a low machine. A standard deck between the wheels loads lower and tows lower.
